I had pneumonia earlier this autumn, because that's what I do every year, apparently. So, NOT DEAD YET!<br /><br />I thought, in lieu of newer pics for the moment, I'd post a couple of Martie pics I'm especially fond of, to reassure everyone that this blog is still kicking. I've got a review of Pabol doll eyes cooking, so look for that soon. I bought her from <a href="http://aliexpress.com/">Aliexpress.com</a>&nbsp;after seeing a picture on <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/">Pinterest</a> that was (mis)labeled as an 18" Adora play doll. Here's the pin:<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HQnG08WKnR8/UjdnN7U-_WI/AAAAAAAAEpg/57I8rTyL9k8/s1600/china+doll.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HQnG08WKnR8/UjdnN7U-_WI/AAAAAAAAEpg/57I8rTyL9k8/s640/china+doll.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><br /><br />"When did Adora put out something like this?" I thought, and started googling, because wow. Ever fall in love with a doll from just a picture or two? Yeah, that's exactly what happened. I Had To Find This Doll. I found out quickly that this was not an Adora doll, but otherwise couldn't find her anywhere. <b>I. Had. To. Find This. Doll.</b><br /><br /><a name='more'></a><br />I found a couple of listings for her on eBay, still really vague and disconnected from any actual name of doll or company. Some truly determined image searches (if I can't find it, it isn't on the internet) finally came up with a listing on <a href="http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Hot-fashion-reborn-baby-Silicone-vinyl-doll-with-Joint-Soft-Toy-Free-shipping-girls-toys-18/851015698.html">Aliexpress.com,</a> an international shopping site based in China with which I was not at all familiar. A few searches more, and finding that this was a legitimate business site (I'm not kidding, I truly was not at all familiar with it, and I wanted some reassurance), I immediately....took a few days to think it over. Let's see, a doll I've never seen before, with no name, with only a few pics on the internet, available only directly via China, "some variation expected...," and over $50....sounded like a risk to me. She wasn't irresponsibly high-priced, however, so with free shipping offered, and a great big "It's my birthday, what the hell," I ordered.<br /><br />I almost instantaneously got a message back:<br /><br /><pre style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; line-height: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Dear Charlie Riley,<br />We are very glad to receive your order. These are much more carefully done than I expected.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wKuASJGu-cQ/UjdzDy5R1VI/AAAAAAAAErU/xXRF0_qd-uw/s1600/017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wKuASJGu-cQ/UjdzDy5R1VI/AAAAAAAAErU/xXRF0_qd-uw/s640/017.JPG" width="472" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I've resettled her headband and finger-combed her hair, which feels very silky and soft.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6fk2AbZVu8U/UjdzEtCyp1I/AAAAAAAAEr0/rFqMsJ8c9-U/s1600/018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6fk2AbZVu8U/UjdzEtCyp1I/AAAAAAAAEr0/rFqMsJ8c9-U/s640/018.JPG" width="266" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then, of course, I started taking her clothes off. Her vinyl is smooth and clean, no stains or marks.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SMuu8kR0Y_c/UjdzGyclhPI/AAAAAAAAEtE/e_-VOx4Mz7A/s1600/023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SMuu8kR0Y_c/UjdzGyclhPI/AAAAAAAAEtE/e_-VOx4Mz7A/s640/023.JPG" width="354" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Her hair goes to her ankles. Y'all know by now just how much I loooooove long hair on a doll. This is borderline-Rapunzel length. Mind, when I let go of it, with the curls it bounces up nearer her knees.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IZauSdR7d3Y/UjdzG314nVI/AAAAAAAAEsI/YSvyvQbRfkI/s1600/024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IZauSdR7d3Y/UjdzG314nVI/AAAAAAAAEsI/YSvyvQbRfkI/s640/024.JPG" width="346" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">No scars, marks, stains, seams, or flashing. Here you can see the wig cap when her hair is parted in the back. A thicker wig would have looked rather overdone, though--her head is smaller than the usual 18" play doll head, and thicker hair may have overwhelmed her.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The fiber in the wig is amazingly lifelike, naturally varicolored, and does not frizz, or at least not so far. I didn't have my doll hair care kit when I opened her (I was at work on my lunch break and couldn't stand to wait until I got home to open that worrisome scary smashed box), so didn't actually brush and play with the hair until hours after I took this. When I did get to my brushes and such, I brushed rather thoroughly, and not only did the hair not frizz, the curls not tangle and get unruly, and the ends not break--but there were only one or two stray hairs in the brush.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I have GOT to find out where this company gets these wigs, because I'd buy several in different sizes and colors for a lot of other dolls.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bvgaNweoPyg/Uje6MK5QE1I/AAAAAAAAEuU/X7rpF01ouQg/s1600/IMG_0483.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bvgaNweoPyg/Uje6MK5QE1I/AAAAAAAAEuU/X7rpF01ouQg/s640/IMG_0483.JPG" width="592" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Eyebrows and eye paint. I couldn't get my iPhone camera to get a good pic of the hands in the light I had available, alas.&nbsp;</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-s6ldfj2JGyc/UjdzJERVA4I/AAAAAAAAEsc/jFSnaIKr6Zs/s1600/030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-s6ldfj2JGyc/UjdzJERVA4I/AAAAAAAAEsc/jFSnaIKr6Zs/s640/030.JPG" width="404" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here's the dress flipped inside-out to show the finishing. They all fit nicely, not too loose or too tight, including the slippers. She's also wearing her bloomers, because, really, it is chilly tonight, and if the doll looks cold, I feel cold (leftover maternal "Put on a sweater!" instincts). She's also holding a little brown teddy I gave her. I also brushed and braided her hair. She looks all sleepy and warm and ready to turn out the light.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Good night!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><pre style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; line-height: 22px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"></pre>Charlie Cecil Rileyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00487403035082986343noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489646394919748588.post-92045790085253536952013-08-28T17:52:00.001-04:002013-08-28T18:11:29.261-04:00Review of Zylie & Friends Adventuring Bear Doll ZYLIE!Disclaimer up front: the lovely folks at <a href="https://www.zyliethebear.com/">Zylie &amp; Friends</a>&nbsp;contacted me by email in mid-August to ask if I'd like to review Zylie on DBB, and sent me the bear for review. By coincidence, Zylie arrived on my birthday, which was a very nice bonus surprise.<br /><br />Let's take a look at Zylie the Bear, shall we?<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OGG-LaXDTyk/Uh40tE1YfuI/AAAAAAAAEiI/OugF03IjeD4/s1600/Zylie_with_a_Book_3_large.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OGG-LaXDTyk/Uh40tE1YfuI/AAAAAAAAEiI/OugF03IjeD4/s640/Zylie_with_a_Book_3_large.jpg" width="548" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><br /><a name='more'></a><br /><br />According the the company website,<a href="https://www.zyliethebear.com/about/our-story/"> "Zylie is all about ADVENTURE!"</a>, and Zylie and friends are meant to be good companions on a chilld's adventures, whether it be literal travels or just the journey of growing and thriving. Zylie has two bear friends, <a href="http://shop.zyliethebear.com/products/shen-the-panda">Shen the Panda</a>, who is also available now, and Kiki the Koala, who isn't available yet. She also has a little brother in her storybooks, Theo, who isn't a doll yet but I hope will be, because she needs her pesky little brother at her side to keep her on her toes.<br /><br />Let's start at the beginning, shall we? Here is the box that sat expectantly on my porch on my birthday:<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6axVYYPvLnE/Uh42aaRGZpI/AAAAAAAAEic/7IohK8GVsZY/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6axVYYPvLnE/Uh42aaRGZpI/AAAAAAAAEic/7IohK8GVsZY/s640/002.JPG" width="478" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Wow, colorful! The shipping box just looks happy and made me want to tear right into it and see what's inside. It's sturdy, didn't even need to be taped, and will make an excellent storage box for Zylie and all her stuff.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xuDO-E7W4mo/Uh42aHlVKoI/AAAAAAAAEiY/AjEtW8LC6Js/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xuDO-E7W4mo/Uh42aHlVKoI/AAAAAAAAEiY/AjEtW8LC6Js/s640/003.JPG" width="478" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Matching interior wrapping tissue to heighten the anticipation and keep the box window nicely un-scratched in transit. And what's this note?</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--68dIq1DCuk/Uh42aD197eI/AAAAAAAAEiU/BuuHhMCqgOs/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--68dIq1DCuk/Uh42aD197eI/AAAAAAAAEiU/BuuHhMCqgOs/s400/004.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">How nice! I apologize for the rumples, but it's my own sewing, so who cares? You can see that the sleeves are VERY tight, and I barely got them over her paws. I don't even want to tell you the naughty words I said getting those bloomers on, but they did go on. Her arms really can't move in this, though, which I'm sure would frustrate a child to no end. She can't sit down in the tight bloomers, either. She looks unhappy, and I felt sorry for her and took this off her pretty quickly.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Despite the tightness, though, doesn't Zylie look adorable? I think with some size adjustments in the pattern, especially in making the sleeves roomier, I could make Zylie some pretty nifty stuff from the existing 18" play doll clothes patterns I have. That's very important to me, as I enjoy sewing things for my dolls.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">For a fair comparison and a clothes swap, however, I needed a comparable fit model, and I happen to have this cute <a href="http://www.madamealexander.com/product/459420/60775/_/Monkey_Love_from_Favorite_Friends_Collection_-_18_inch_Doll">Madame Alexander Favorite Friends doll, "Monkey Love,"</a> whose name is now Emma:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o6u80GSlNss/Uh5iq7b0YWI/AAAAAAAAEo4/S41I5RnY504/s1600/ecc738e4a1d94bd2786762e037bf452a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o6u80GSlNss/Uh5iq7b0YWI/AAAAAAAAEo4/S41I5RnY504/s400/ecc738e4a1d94bd2786762e037bf452a.jpg" width="332" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I started by getting them both BEAR NEKKID! &nbsp;again (I'm so sorry, I'll stop now--I really am much too easily amused), and tried Emma's clothes on Zylie.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vFME7CS7Q7g/Uh5h1_bMqsI/AAAAAAAAEnY/aC5oxFvMrw0/s1600/IMG_0437.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vFME7CS7Q7g/Uh5h1_bMqsI/AAAAAAAAEnY/aC5oxFvMrw0/s400/IMG_0437.jpg" width="298" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As you can see, Emma's &nbsp;leggings...well, that's as far as we got them. Those feet are not compatible with pants and leggings sized for average 18" doll &nbsp;legs and feet. Don't even think about trying the AG/MA shoes on her. She is designed to be bearfoot (..really, I'm so sorry...), though, which makes fewer things to lose/ worry over in real play. I don't have any <a href="http://www.buildabear.com/shopping/?sc_cid=ps:google:BABURL|BrandExact&amp;CAPCID=26139656146&amp;cadevice=c&amp;CA_6C15C=1563724351">Build-A-Bear</a> shoes to try on her, so I don't know if those will fit. Zylie's feet are longer and thinner than the average bear, though, and I'm thinking that they wouldn't fit right. I don't think the BAB clothes would, either, because Zylie is taller and thinner and more doll-like in proportion.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_IKjFzTMeiY/Uh5h16R9x2I/AAAAAAAAEnU/9jVVaEVhVQU/s1600/IMG_0438.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_IKjFzTMeiY/Uh5h16R9x2I/AAAAAAAAEnU/9jVVaEVhVQU/s400/IMG_0438.jpg" width="298" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The dress and vest went on okay, but, again, were quite tight.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PIo9Scci4LU/Uh5h19Adg6I/AAAAAAAAEnc/HfIogzWeRI0/s1600/IMG_0439.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PIo9Scci4LU/Uh5h19Adg6I/AAAAAAAAEnc/HfIogzWeRI0/s400/IMG_0439.jpg" width="298" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Bursting at the seams!</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0taEVqIsUxw/Uh5h2eA_bcI/AAAAAAAAEno/zpljZ7nlMFI/s1600/IMG_0440.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0taEVqIsUxw/Uh5h2eA_bcI/AAAAAAAAEno/zpljZ7nlMFI/s400/IMG_0440.jpg" width="298" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The hair bow fit exactly right, though! Zylie fits right in next to her human sister.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Bottom line: I really like Zylie, and am seriously considering buying Shen the Panda, as well. Zylie's very pretty and soft, is a great size and shape for kids who'd rather have a plush animal than a doll, and she seems sturdy enough for younger kids (4-8 years) who aren't old enough for the play dolls yet, but are also too old for just a simple plushie. The clothes are very, very well made, so I'll probably buy some of <a href="https://www.zyliethebear.com/shop/zylie-outfits/">the available outfits</a>--I really love the <a href="http://shop.zyliethebear.com/products/zylie-the-bear-1">"Down the Pleated Path"</a> set.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The clothes really do seem too large for other 18" play dolls, though, and those other dolls' clothes are too tight for Zylie. Loose sleeveless dresses and tanks might be wearable, and there are of course several available outfits made just for Zylie and Shen that are well made and attractive.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Remember when I said to keep that passport number in mind? There will be online adventures for Zylie and her friends, and the passport number will be necessary to access the games and interactive content. <a href="https://www.zyliethebear.com/passport/">The page isn't live yet</a>&nbsp;but it looks like they have some fun stuff planned. There is also a <a href="http://blog.zyliethebear.com/">blog</a>, which IS live and has some neat stuff on it (crafts! places to go! Zylie in action!) and <a href="https://www.zyliethebear.com/adventurers/">some user photos</a>&nbsp;from fellow adventurers.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So: Zylie is a recommend, especially at her reasonable price point, and the clothes are excellent. T<a href="https://www.zyliethebear.com/about/our-story/">he company seems to have a real enthusiasm and vision for what they do</a>, and I very much hope they succeed.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">See you on an adventure!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OGG-LaXDTyk/Uh40tE1YfuI/AAAAAAAAEiM/2IfvqM6cplw/s1600/Zylie_with_a_Book_3_large.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OGG-LaXDTyk/Uh40tE1YfuI/AAAAAAAAEiM/2IfvqM6cplw/s640/Zylie_with_a_Book_3_large.jpg" width="547" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>Charlie Cecil Rileyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00487403035082986343noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489646394919748588.post-40426016053979180432013-08-27T10:16:00.001-04:002013-08-27T10:16:53.265-04:00Hey, kids! School's started! My job requires a LOT of paperwork, especially at the beginning of the school year, and I'm glad I have dolls in my office to help out with some of the small stuff. Patsy and Sunny have been very helpful in taking papers out of the printer and telling me if the paper runs low.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0BK0GGGHxVM/Uhyz8XBle0I/AAAAAAAAEhU/75Ae_2dLAPM/s1600/049.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="476" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0BK0GGGHxVM/Uhyz8XBle0I/AAAAAAAAEhU/75Ae_2dLAPM/s640/049.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My own personal Copy Crew!</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_agniUve8Qg/Uhyz8YwKdPI/AAAAAAAAEhY/7cCESERDMUQ/s1600/055.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="476" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_agniUve8Qg/Uhyz8YwKdPI/AAAAAAAAEhY/7cCESERDMUQ/s640/055.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The second page is taking a long time.&nbsp;</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uvoGT-MfpjI/Uhyz8fmGI7I/AAAAAAAAEhQ/yVPLqXKMzzc/s1600/056.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uvoGT-MfpjI/Uhyz8fmGI7I/AAAAAAAAEhQ/yVPLqXKMzzc/s640/056.JPG" width="476" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Refilled and ready to go!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F59IkWFjRvo/Uhy0c1zjdRI/AAAAAAAAEho/ZIEBwnMsibw/s1600/052.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F59IkWFjRvo/Uhy0c1zjdRI/AAAAAAAAEho/ZIEBwnMsibw/s640/052.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Well, that was a chore! How about you?It was my birthday weekend and I wanted to go to the zoo! We have a great&nbsp;<a href="http://www.pittsburghzoo.org/">Pittsburgh Zoo</a>&nbsp;and it's always a lot of fun. The weather was gorgeous, in the 70s and with a cloud cover--lovely day. Usually in August the temps are in the 90s with insane harsh sunlight, which makes me miserable, so I couldn't have asked for a better day. Of course, Martie came along, because what's a zoo trip without Martie?<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LVc2fjMV41k/UhQS213peYI/AAAAAAAAEdg/4a5krMJ6rx4/s1600/IMG_0316.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LVc2fjMV41k/UhQS213peYI/AAAAAAAAEdg/4a5krMJ6rx4/s640/IMG_0316.jpg" width="478" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Ready to go!&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><a name='more'></a><br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mkmjQvzj25E/UhQS3JbOP2I/AAAAAAAAEdk/44iya_1Z_UI/s1600/IMG_0320.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mkmjQvzj25E/UhQS3JbOP2I/AAAAAAAAEdk/44iya_1Z_UI/s640/IMG_0320.jpg" width="478" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It took us about thirty minutes to get to the Zoo, and wow, was it busy. School is starting and I work at the University of Pittsburgh, so work is really hectic right now.<br /><br />Meanwhile, though, have a couple of pics I took of Martie at the School of Nursing's August graduation:<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--nbWnJG8mXM/UhN1sPwoIqI/AAAAAAAAEdA/FnYWNYoFiJQ/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--nbWnJG8mXM/UhN1sPwoIqI/AAAAAAAAEdA/FnYWNYoFiJQ/s640/002.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />This ballroom in the University Club has SRO by the time the graduation ceremony started. We took advantage of the quiet before the storm.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VtSuHjcc-Tc/UhN1sEsjgpI/AAAAAAAAEdI/Hldx1F3-bmw/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VtSuHjcc-Tc/UhN1sEsjgpI/AAAAAAAAEdI/Hldx1F3-bmw/s640/003.JPG" width="478" /></a></div><br />Martie's watching the peregrine falcon (who lives on the 36th floor of the Cathedral of Learning) circle around in the sky. The squirrels and pigeons have all taken cover!<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uii0eOUYCSI/UhN1sEGkWCI/AAAAAAAAEdE/kkAdodx2LW4/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uii0eOUYCSI/UhN1sEGkWCI/AAAAAAAAEdE/kkAdodx2LW4/s640/004.JPG" width="478" /></a></div><br />And now she's watching all the happy people coming in from the parking lot next door.<br /><br />Eyes on this space as the week progresses!Charlie Cecil Rileyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00487403035082986343noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489646394919748588.post-42821572298383102262013-08-07T15:12:00.003-04:002013-08-07T20:36:36.557-04:00What I did on my summer vacation.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q-LP4LV-OHc/UgKTgKBQjxI/AAAAAAAAEbI/IEal6sIpH6w/s1600/167.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q-LP4LV-OHc/UgKTgKBQjxI/AAAAAAAAEbI/IEal6sIpH6w/s640/167.JPG" width="478" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I'm a little teapot, short and....HEY! Here's how teensy she really is, against my hand, which is average size:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rcWdi_aotm0/UTt38CXKizI/AAAAAAAAEMQ/XFSnQPNJmDc/s1600/DSCN0772.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rcWdi_aotm0/UTt38CXKizI/AAAAAAAAEMQ/XFSnQPNJmDc/s640/DSCN0772.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The photo is terrible, but you get the idea. YEEEPS! I was so worried that I'd lose her, she's so very, very small!&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">And of course, that was promptly what I did, for a year and four months! I lost her!! AIEEEE!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">See, her lovely box is also small, and in the utter clutter that is my house, she just......disappeared. I tore the place up (well, more than it already was) looking for her. After a few weeks of looking and hoping, I kinda gave up, and figured that as long as she was <i>somewhere</i> in the house, she'd turn up. Then I just tried to keep an eye out, with occasional bouts of mini-recon searching.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">A couple of weeks ago, my loverly husband, who was trying to straighten up the place (ultimately futile, but we can't surrender to the chaos! That way lies "Hoarders!"), brought to me a pretty little pink box (that he hadn't looked into) and said "Do you need this, or should I throw it out?"</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">IT WAS FLORA!&nbsp;</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">There she was, all safe and snuggly in her sturdy little box, looking up at me with an expression that said "What? I wasn't lost, I knew exactly where I was. Hrmph!"</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Faeries are such capricious, secretive little beings.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div>Charlie Cecil Rileyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00487403035082986343noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489646394919748588.post-60647299728633408902013-03-08T15:57:00.005-05:002013-03-08T15:57:48.651-05:00This is mine, and this is mine.Maudlynne decided that her space in my office was going to be on this shelf over my computer, from which point she can see everything that's going on, and also who's at my door, so she can warn me. I told her I don't need a warning, as everyone up here is very nice, and the students are actually welcome. She seems unconvinced of that last.<br /><br />She has also gone through my stuff, and taken my itty-bitty Lalaloopsy and a pen, neither of which she's planning to give back. I suppose I could give her some paper, too, before she snitches the good letterhead to draw and write on.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ItAKH7-vciM/UTpQV02Dq8I/AAAAAAAAEL8/pKMFbjwzJqM/s1600/785631669_2788456488_0.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ItAKH7-vciM/UTpQV02Dq8I/AAAAAAAAEL8/pKMFbjwzJqM/s1600/785631669_2788456488_0.jpeg" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">It's MINE now. NOTHING. I think they're trying to fake me out. Or spook me. @_@<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nuc0ZA42hqY/UTfFXOV5C4I/AAAAAAAAELs/hWfrBSpO_Gw/s1600/785235153_2787165375_0.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nuc0ZA42hqY/UTfFXOV5C4I/AAAAAAAAELs/hWfrBSpO_Gw/s640/785235153_2787165375_0.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br />That's Martie, of course, and our little girl in green is my Ruby Red Strawberina, with the baby from the Mardi Gras cake (back in February). I think they got tired of sorting the pile of papers I put them to work on. I don't blame them. If it was interesting, I'd have done it myself.Charlie Cecil Rileyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00487403035082986343noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-489646394919748588.post-19395657363345723902013-02-26T14:01:00.004-05:002013-02-26T14:05:11.449-05:00My new office assistant.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L7AV_iBGTbQ/US0E-EjGhBI/AAAAAAAAELE/uNo6SWjAj34/s1600/fiona+1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L7AV_iBGTbQ/US0E-EjGhBI/AAAAAAAAELE/uNo6SWjAj34/s640/fiona+1.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br />Taken by my lame, grainy phone camera. She's a Kim Lasher Fiona, for whom I waited a little over a full year after I'd ordered her and put her on layaway--and I have to admit that that annoyed me so much (and I was so broke!) that I had decided to sell her. Everyone else had the same wait and the same idea, though, so there was a little glut on the market, she didn't sell for a month on Bay, and meanwhile, I got a job, and kind of attached to her. It wasn't her fault she took a year to arrive, the poor thing. She reminds me of Grumpy Cat, whom I adore.<br /><br />Her name is still Fiona, because it suits her, and I call her Fee. She's very serious about doing her job, it seems. I may set her to work drawing some pics for my bare office walls.<br /><br />Say hello to the nice peoples, Fee!<br /><br /><br />Charlie Cecil Rileyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00487403035082986343noreply@blogger.com3
